The Smurfs (2011) Whose stupid idea was this??

The Smurfs (2011) Raja Gosnell *

Just caught a special screening of The Smurfs 3D and I can say with all honesty that I literally lost brain cells while watching this terrible movie. I think they might have actually hired the Smurfs themselves to write the screenplay. This was the dumbest movie I have ever seen. When is the next Pixar movie coming out?? At least the crew at Pixar actually TRY and make a decent film. Toy Story 3 was great filmmaking, The Smurfs…..utter garbage.

I had hoped that the casting of the hilarious Hank Azaria (The Simpsons) might make a funny and nostalgic film. I did not laugh once during 86 awful minutes where I sat in horror watching my beloved childhood cartoon in a bastardized 3D version which had CGI Smurfs mixed with Live Action. This movie had absolutely NO connection to the 80’s cartoon except of course the name Smurfs and the villain Gargamel. What a train wreck. Did the creators of this movie even watch the old cartoons to get some sort of Smurf reference? I’m surprised they even made the Smurfs blue. They could have very well been neon green and you wouldn’t know the difference.

You want to know just how bad this movie is?

Doogie Howser M.D. was the lead actor along with the obnoxious voice “talents” of Jeff Foxworthy, George Lopez and Paul (Pee Wee Herman) Reubens as the Smurfs. Enough said.

Stay away from this film at all cost and do not be tricked into giving the studio your money in an attempt to relive your childhood. You will surely be disappointed. You’ve been warned.

update August 1, 2011: Want a clear sign that societies intelligence has reached an all time low? The Smurfs made over $36 million opening weekend and Number 1 at the box office.

C’mon America lets seriously get our shit together!

Watch the Trailer below and see for yourself.
