Alice in Wonderland (2010): Tim what were you and Johnny smoking??

Seriously Tim, what were you and Johnny smoking when you guys made this? I’m not saying it’s a bad movie. It’s highly entertaining and Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter are truly remarkable actors and chew up the scenery like no other movie they have ever been in. But WTF! I was completely disoriented after watching this.

I have always been a fan of the original cartoon and the Lewis Carroll stories so I was pleased to hear Tim Burton would be at the helm of this remake with his two favorite actors in the lead. They definitely did not disappoint. The movie looks gorgeous and you can practically see the $200 Million dollar budget dripping off the screen before your very eyes. The set design is outstanding, the music is typical Tim Burton kookiness and Johnny Depp, well he’s Johnny Depp. How can you not love him.

My only complaint about this film is the absolutely wooden performance by the lead Mia Wasikowska as our stories heroine Alice. This poor girl couldn’t act her way out of a cardboard box if the box was on fire and she was getting attacked by both Twiddledee and Twiddledum with clubs.

Tim Burton usually has a good eye for talent. I’m surprised by the 2nd day of shooting he didn’t realize he had hired a wax statue for the crucial role of Alice and replaced her with Emma Stone or someone else much better.

Good solid family entertainment which is always expected from Disney.
